Bontrager Line Comp 30 Wheelset | Trail-Ready MTB Wheels
We built the Bontrager Line Comp 30 wheelset for riders who demand proven trail performance without compromise. These wheels feature 30mm internal width carbon rims that balance strength and weight for aggressive all-mountain riding.
Our Line Comp 30 pairs dependable sealed cartridge bearing hubs with tubeless-ready hookless bead construction. The result is a versatile wheelset that handles technical climbs and rowdy descents with equal confidence.
Whether you're racing enduro stages or logging weekend trail miles, the Line Comp 30 delivers the durability and ride quality our athletes rely on. We've engineered these wheels to withstand seasons of hard use while maintaining true spoke tension and reliable engagement.
Line Comp 30 specifications

Carbon Rim Construction & Width
Our Line Comp 30 carbon rims use a layup process refined through years of World Cup downhill and enduro racing. The 30mm internal width provides optimal tire support for the 2.3-2.6″ range most trail riders prefer.
This width creates a stable tire profile that improves cornering traction without the weight penalty of wider wheels designed for plus-sized rubber. The hookless bead design simplifies tubeless installation and allows us to remove material from the bead hook area for additional weight savings.

Hub Design & Engagement
The Line Comp 30 hubs feature sealed cartridge bearings that keep contaminants out while allowing quick service without pressing tools. We’ve positioned the rear hub bearings outboard to reduce the unsupported axle span and improve power transfer.
Our six-pawl freehub mechanism delivers 6-degree engagement angles, giving you near-instant power when you need to punch over obstacles or accelerate out of corners. The system uses tool-free access for spring and pawl inspection between rides.
Tubeless Setup & Tire Compatibility
Every Line Comp 30 wheelset ships with tubeless rim tape pre-installed and valve stems included. The hookless bead shelf creates a consistent diameter that helps tires seat with a floor pump rather than requiring a compressor.
We recommend running 2.3-2.6″ tires for optimal performance with the 30mm internal width. Narrower tires won’t develop proper sidewall support, while wider rubber creates excessive weight and rolling resistance on this rim profile.

Line Comp 30 Wheelset Questions
The 30mm internal width is optimized for 2.3-2.6" tires. This range provides the ideal balance between tire support and rolling efficiency for trail riding.
Narrower tires like 2.1-2.2" won't develop proper sidewall support on this rim width, leading to vague cornering feel. Wider tires over 2.6" create excessive weight and rolling resistance without traction benefits on 30mm rims.
Yes, we offer both Shimano Micro Spline and SRAM XD driver body options that install on the same rear hub shell. You can purchase the alternate driver body separately and swap it using basic tools.
The conversion process takes about 10 minutes and requires removing the existing driver body, cleaning the hub interface, and installing the new driver with fresh grease. Both driver types use the same bearing arrangement and axle end cap.
Our carbon rim construction provides superior impact resistance compared to aluminum at similar weights. The carbon material flexes under impact then returns to shape, while aluminum rims dent permanently.
The Line Comp 30 wheelset also allows lower tire pressures than aluminum without rim damage, improving traction and comfort. We've tested these wheels through thousands of impact cycles that would destroy aluminum rims of equivalent weight.
Each wheelset includes tubeless rim tape pre-installed, tubeless valve stems, rotor lockrings, and axle end caps for standard Boost spacing. You'll need to purchase tires, disc rotors, and cassette separately.
We also include a spoke tension reference card and warranty information. The wheels arrive true and ready to install once you add your choice of tires and components.
Expect to check spoke tension every 10-15 rides during the first month as the wheel settles into its final state. After the break-in period, most riders only need professional truing once per season with normal trail use.
The 28-hole lacing pattern and butted spokes maintain tension better than traditional straight-gauge builds. If you notice lateral wobble or hear spoke ping sounds, check tension before riding further to prevent damage.
The hookless bead design has a maximum safe pressure of 40 psi, though most trail riders run 22-30 psi for optimal traction and comfort. The ETRTO hookless standard requires tires specifically marked as hookless compatible.
Running pressures above 40 psi with hookless rims creates a risk of tire blow-off. Always verify your tire sidewall includes the hookless compatible marking before installation on the Line Comp 30.
Yes, the 300 lb rider weight limit includes gear and pack weight, making these wheels suitable for bikepacking trips. The carbon construction handles sustained loaded riding better than many aluminum options at similar weights.
For multi-day trips with heavy gear loads, consider running 3-5 psi higher than your normal trail pressure to protect against rim strikes on technical terrain. The sealed cartridge bearings handle muddy conditions and water crossings without requiring immediate service.
