Bontrager Rally MIPS Helmet | Mountain Bike Helmet with Enhanced Protection
We designed the Bontrager Rally MIPS to be your all-mountain partner whether you're climbing technical singletrack or dropping into steep descents. This helmet delivers full coverage protection without the weight penalty of a full-face design.
The integrated MIPS Brain Protection System adds a low-friction layer that redirects rotational impact forces away from your brain during angled impacts. Our Blendr mount system accepts lights and cameras without compromising the helmet's structural integrity.
Extended rear coverage and a removable visor give you trail-ready versatility. The BOA® Fit System dial lets you dial in precise tension with one hand, even mid-ride with gloves on.
Rally MIPS Protection & Fit

MIPS Brain Protection Technology
The bontrager rally mips features Multi-Directional Impact Protection System technology developed by leading brain surgeons and scientists in Sweden. This low-friction layer sits between the comfort padding and the EPS foam liner, allowing 10-15mm of relative motion between your head and the helmet shell during impact.
Most cycling crashes involve angled impacts rather than direct perpendicular force. When your helmet strikes the ground at an angle, rotational forces transfer to your brain and can cause serious injury. The MIPS layer redirects these rotational forces by allowing the helmet to rotate slightly around your head, significantly reducing the energy transmitted to your brain.

Extended Coverage & Trail-Ready Design
We extended the rear coverage on the Rally MIPS to protect the occipital region of your skull during backward falls common in technical mountain biking. The helmet shell wraps lower and farther back than traditional XC helmets without creating the weight or heat buildup associated with enduro-specific designs.
The adjustable visor provides three positions to optimize your sight lines on different terrain. Flip it up for steep climbs where you need maximum upward vision, or angle it down for fast descents when sun glare and roost become factors. The visor detaches completely if you prefer the streamlined look.
Ventilation & Comfort Engineering
Eighteen strategically positioned vents work with internal air channels to pull heat away from your head during climbs. We positioned larger exhaust vents at the crown and rear where hot air naturally rises, while smaller intake vents at the front scoop cool air across your forehead.
The internal channeling separates airflow from the foam structure, creating efficient cooling without sacrificing impact protection. Even on slow technical climbs where speed-driven airflow drops to nothing, the vent design captures ambient air movement.

Rally MIPS Helmet Questions
The MIPS layer in the bontrager rally mips allows 10-15mm of rotational movement between your head and the helmet shell during angled impacts. This redirects rotational forces that cause brain injuries in typical cycling crashes.
Most falls involve your helmet striking the ground at an angle rather than straight-on. The low-friction MIPS layer mimics your brain's own protective cerebrospinal fluid by allowing the helmet to rotate slightly around your head, significantly reducing the rotational energy transmitted to your brain during impact.
The Rally MIPS provides extended rear coverage that wraps lower and farther back to protect the occipital region during backward falls common in mountain biking. Standard XC helmets prioritize light weight with minimal coverage.
We designed the Rally for all-mountain versatility where technical terrain requires more protection than XC racing but you don't want the weight and heat of enduro helmets. The integrated MIPS, adjustable visor, and Blendr mounts make it trail-ready out of the box.
The Blendr mount system on the Rally MIPS accepts one accessory at a time in the integrated front mount position. The mount uses standard GoPro-style adapters and fits Bontrager Ion lights directly.
For riders who need both camera and light mounting, you can use the integrated Blendr mount for your primary accessory and add a helmet strap mount for the secondary device. We engineered the mount points at structural stress zones that won't compromise the helmet shell integrity.
Measure your head circumference one inch above your eyebrows using a flexible tape measure. Choose Small for 51-57cm, Medium for 54-60cm, or Large for 58-63cm.
If you fall in an overlap zone between sizes, consider your head shape. Rounder heads often size up for better coverage, while oval or narrow head shapes may prefer the smaller size for secure temple contact. The BOA® system provides 360-degree adjustability within each size range to fine-tune the fit.
Yes, the Rally MIPS accommodates prescription eyewear and sunglasses. The front edge sits high enough to clear most frame styles without pressure points, and the adjustable visor angles away from your glasses.
The temple zones include slight relief channels that reduce pressure from eyewear arms during long rides. If you wear larger wraparound sports glasses, test the fit with your specific frames to ensure comfort, as oversized temple pieces may create slight pressure in the Medium size.
Replace your Rally MIPS immediately after any crash involving head contact, even if you don't see visible damage. The EPS foam compresses permanently during impacts and cannot provide full protection in subsequent crashes.
Even without crashes, replace the helmet every three to five years. UV exposure, temperature cycling, and normal wear degrade the foam and shell materials over time. Our Crash Replacement program offers 50% off a new helmet if you submit photos of impact damage within 30 days of the incident.
The Rally MIPS meets and exceeds CPSC bicycle helmet safety standards for the United States and EN 1078 European standards. Our testing goes beyond minimum certification requirements with additional impact testing at various angles and energy levels.
The MIPS Brain Protection System adds a layer of protection not required by current safety standards but proven to reduce rotational forces in real-world crash scenarios. All our helmets undergo extensive lab testing and field validation before release.
